Beppe Grillo, Italy’s most famous comedian, was born in Genova (Genoa) in 1948. He discovered his talents in Genoa’s venues, and then found success in Milan when he improvised a monologue for an audition at the RAI [Italy’s State Radio and Television Company] at which Pippo Baudo was present. After this he started to appear on TV (Secondo Voi 1977-78 and Luna Park 1979). He broke with the traditions of professional TV broadcasting with satirical monologues and improvisation. In 2005, Beppe Grillo founded a blog at beppegrillo.it as an open space to connect with fans and speak frankly about Italian and international current events and social issues.
