Ms. Chong is a Malaysian citizen currently enrolled in the International Peace and Conflict Resolution Graduate Program at American University. She holds a first degree in Law with an LL.B. conferred by the premier university of Malaysia, University Malaya. Her areas of interests include Alternate Dispute Resolution and instrastate and interstate communication within all levels of domestic and international societies. Ms. Chong is fluent in English, Malay and Chinese and she also speaks Cantonese, Hokkien and Foochow. |

Ms. Fabri is a foreign student at American University’s School of International Service, pursuing her M.A. in International Communications, and concentrating in Global Media Studies. She is currently working on her Thesis, which focuses on how human rights NGOs are incorporating Internet-related and Web-related tools into campaign building, today. Ms. Fabri has worked in the media field since 1990, when she graduated from the University of Torino, Italy, receiving a Master’s Degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures. There, she started her career as a Teaching Assistant in “Film History and Criticism,” while working as a freelance journalist for local magazines. In particular, she wrote articles for a leading financial and business publication, distributed with the economic daily Italian newspaper Il sole 24 ore. She also worked as a news reporter at a local TV station, where she also created, edited and directed the historical program “Liberation day: 50 years later.” Finally, she worked as an editor for Aleph Editore, an Italian Publishing Company, specialized in Media Studies. |

Born in 1980 near Naples, Mr. Farano has a degree in Political Science at the LUISS University, Rome with his third year. He spent one year in Strasbourg for his Erasmus year where he co-founded cafebabel.com, the first online European media, he now runs in Paris as Editor and Executive Manager. |

Maria Fiorio |

Coming from a multicultural background, with an Italian-American father and Colombian mother, Ms. Fiorio had the privilege to be thrown into an international arena from early on. She has always been fascinated with the interaction of cultures and liked volunteering in humanitarian actions for Colombia. She was born in Paris received most of her education there. Having a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of the Sorbonne made her master a general knowledge in world culture as well as developing good analytical and research skills. Being fluent in four languages (French, Italian, Spanish and English), automatically facilitated her path towards the communication field and made possible to have international experiences. Ms. Fiorio first interned in Barcelona, Spain in a communication agency, then worked as a press attaché assistant in the French museum Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris, France, and finally worked as an assistant for media in Virginia in a high tech company. Today, she is currently enrolled as a graduate student in International Communication at American University and is looking into expanding her communication skills in the development sector especially in projects involved with culture. |

Ms. Gao is a current graduate student in International Communication at the school of International Service, American University, Washington D.C. Ms. Gao graduated from Fudan University, one of the leading universities in China, with double majors in International Relations and Journalism. Always interested in media and communication, Ms. Gao has worked and interned in various media sectors, including Shanghai Radio, Shanghai Daily, CNN International in Atlanta, and a leading Swedish News Service in Shanghai, Svenska Dagbladet . Before starting her graduate study in Washington D.C., Ms. Gao was a program officer in Shanghai Art Fair Committee, a top art exhibition company based in Shanghai responsible for organizing the largest annual art fair in the city. |

Ms. Husain is a Masters candidate in the International Media program at the School of International Service. She was a reporter and producer with Voice of America's Urdu Bureau and broadcasts stories on Americana and American Muslims on GeoTV in Pakistan. She has previously worked with the Muslim Public Affairs Council's DC Office in their Government Relations and Public Affairs departments. Zuleqa is a 2004 graduate from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota with a degree in marketing. |

Yukiko Inoue
|

Ms. Inoue is currently studying at the School of International Service, American University to pursue an M.A. in International Communication. She is Japanese and completed her undergraduate studies in French Language and Studies at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan. She produced a graduation thesis titled Female Immigrants in France: Their Survival and Success, which investigates how female immigrants successfully overcame difficulties associated with their status as immigrants and women. She is fluent in French and spent one year in France as an exchange student at Université Catholique d'Ouest in Angers. Ms. Inoue expanded her interests in the International Communication field, notably in strategic political communications, global media and change in information and communication technology. While utilizing her trilingual and intercultural skills, she contributed as a translator and as a cross-cultural consultant for a consulting company, NGOs and for the Universal Exposition 2005 held in Aichi, Japan. This summer she interned at the Japan Chair, CSIS to increase her knowledge in Japanese policy and its relationship within the East Asian region. And this semester she will expand her knowledge in global media by interning at one of media offices in Washington D.C. |

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, but raised predominantly in the United States, Ms. Kapitanskaya graduated from St. Petersburg State University in 2007 with a degree in political science. Her undergraduate thesis was devoted to the political influence of La Francophonie in francophone sub-Saharan Africa from 1956 to the present day, the research for which helped her develop a keen interest in cultural and educational development on the global stage. She is currently enrolled as an MA candidate in the International Politics program at the School of International Service at AU, after which she hopes to pursue a career developing “the global knowledge economy”. |

Ko Eun Kim |

Ko Eun Kim is currently a sophomore in the School of International Service at American University. She migrated from South Korea to America at the age of 13 and graduated with Advanced Studies Diploma from Oakton High School in Vienna, Virginia in June 2007. With the ability of speaking English and Korean fluently and understanding two different cultures, she served as a co-founder and president of Korean Society Club, as a student director at Washington Community Education, and as a vice president of Real SAT Online Korean International Student Organization. She is deeply interested in international relations, especially in international economic and youth development in Asia. She plans to pursue B.A. degree in International Studies and B.S. degree in Economics at American University. She has been added to Dean’s List in December 2007. To gain more experience in international field, she had worked as an intern at the Republic of Korea Embassy Consular Office and Peace Corps Headquarters. She also started to learn Chinese as her third language. |

Ms. Murthy is a first year graduate student of International Communication at the School of International Service at the American University. Her interests include the state of the global media, emerging responsible media forums and change in communication technologies in the emerging global economies. Ms. Murthy is a native of India and completed her undergraduate studies in Mumbai, India prior to moving to America to pursue her graduate studies. Her previous work experience includes working for a major newspaper in India and a non-profit fund-raising organization. This summer, she will take her interests forward by pursuing an internship at the Kojo Nnamdi show at the WAMU radio station in Washington DC. Her research for this project included analyzing the Indian citizen journalism websites, MeriNews and India Together and identifying trends of a changing way of news reporting, dialogue and communicating in modern Indian society. |

Afua Nuro Owusu-Baafi |

Ms. Owusu-Baafi is a first year graduate student at the School of International Service at American University. Her chosen field of emphasis is Comparative and Regional Studies and her region is, of course, Africa. She was born in Brooklyn, New York to Ghanaian parents who relocated the family to Ghana six months after her birth. She lived in Accra, the capital city of Ghana for eighteen years. It is in Ghana that she received her primary and secondary education. She attended Akosombo International School for her secondary education. It is a boarding school, and her time there remains some of the best of her life! After she graduated from AIS in August 2003, her family moved to Dakar, Senegal where her parents are currently serving as missionaries. She stayed in Dakar for a year before coming to the United States to attend college. Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN is where she attended, and she recently graduated with a B.A in Political Science, and minors in History, and Women's Studies. She is very excited to be a part of this project. |

Rafael Pinto is originally from Brazil and has extensive travel and work experience while having lived in numerous countries throughout the world. He studied International Relations and graduated from Florida International University in Miami, Florida, then moved to Washington D.C. in 2002 in order to pursue a career in the international development field. He worked for 4 ½ years at the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), a non-profit organization affiliated to the Organization of American States (OAS). He also worked for 10 months at the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic, in Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. He has volunteered and worked along with other young professionals in a variety of youth-led initiatives in Washington D.C. He is currently working as a consultant at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, and pursuing his Masters degree in "Development Management," at the School of International Service (SIS) at American University. |

Iana Seales |

|
Ms. Seales is a senior journalist with the Stabroek News in Georgetown, Guyana. She commenced her career in journalism as a court reporter and progressed in a few months to feature writing. Today, she covers health, education and culture for the newspaper. Her main reporting beat is health with a particular focus on HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases. She is an award winning journalist in the Caribbean region; winning PAHO/WHO Awards for Excellence in Health Journalism consecutively since 2004 for features on HIV/AIDS and Kidney/Heart disease. She is an Edward R. Murrow fellow and has received training from the Commonwealth Press Union (UK). Ms. Seales is concluding her final year of studies for a degree in International Relations at the University of Guyana and is writing her thesis: Food Security in the Caribbean Region (Impacts of the Global Crisis, Home Grown Solutions). In addition to reporting the news, she often collaborates with local women’s group and the local human rights body working on symposiums covering areas such as the impact of the Guyanese economy on grassroots women; rape in Guyana and the issue of domestic violence in the Guyanese society. |
